Factors and Multiples

28 practice questions

  • Find factors and common factors
  • Find multiples and common multiples

Sample question

How many factors does 12 have?
Show the answer and working

Answer: 6

How:
Factors of 12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
That is 6 factors.

Why: Listing the factors in pairs makes sure none is missed.

Fractions

43 practice questions

  • Change between mixed numbers and improper fractions
  • Add and subtract fractions with related denominators
  • Find a fraction of a set of objects

Sample question

Write 17/5 as a mixed number.
Show the answer and working

Answer: 3 2/5

How:
17 ÷ 5 = 3 R 2
17/5 = 3 2/5

Why: Every 5 5ths make one whole. 3 wholes use 15 of them, leaving 2.

Decimals

73 practice questions

  • Read, compare and order decimals up to 3 places
  • Round decimals to a whole number, 1 or 2 decimal places
  • Add and subtract decimals
  • Multiply and divide decimals by a 1-digit whole number
  • Convert between fractions and decimals

Sample question

What is the value of the digit 7 in 4.375?
Show the answer and working

Answer: 0.07

How:
In 4.375, the 7 is worth 0.07.

Why: Each place to the right of the decimal point is worth one tenth of the place before it.

Measurement & Geometry

Time

23 practice questions

  • Use the 24-hour clock
  • Find durations and end times

Sample question

Write 3.45 p.m. in 24-hour clock time.
Show the answer and working

Answer: 15 45

How:
3.45 p.m. = 15 45

Why: After 12 noon, the 24-hour clock carries on counting: 3 p.m. is 3 + 12 = 15.

Area and Perimeter

42 practice questions

  • Find the area and perimeter of rectangles and squares
  • Find a missing side from the area or perimeter
  • Find the area and perimeter of figures made of rectangles

Sample question

Find the area of the rectangle.
Diagram. Four-sided shape with sides marked 12 cm, 7 cm; angle at point 1 is a right angle; angle at point 2 is a right angle; angle at point 3 is a right angle; angle at point 4 is a right angle. Not drawn to scale.12 cm7 cmNot drawn to scale
Show the answer and working

Answer: 84 cm²

How:
12 × 7 = 84 cm²

Why: The shape can be covered by 7 rows of 12 one-centimetre squares.

Angles

34 practice questions

  • Measure angles in degrees and relate them to turns
  • Use the 8-point compass

Sample question

∠ABC is a right angle. ∠ABD = 35°. Find ∠DBC.
Diagram. Four-sided shape. Label: A. Label: B. Label: C. Label: D. Label: 35°. Not drawn to scale.ABCD35°Not drawn to scale
Show the answer and working

Answer: 55 °

How:
90° − 35° = 55°

Why: The line BD splits the right angle into two parts that add up to 90°.

Rectangles and Squares

13 practice questions

  • Use properties of rectangles and squares to find unknown angles and lengths

Sample question

ABCD is a rectangle. AC is a straight line. ∠BAC = 37°. Find ∠CAD.
Diagram. Four-sided shape ABCD; angle at B is a right angle; angle at C is a right angle; angle at D is a right angle. Label: 37°. Label: ?. Not drawn to scale.ABCD37°?Not drawn to scale
Show the answer and working

Answer: 53 °

How:
90° − 37° = 53°

Why: ∠BAD is a right angle, and AC splits it into ∠BAC and ∠CAD.

Symmetry

14 practice questions

  • Identify symmetric figures and lines of symmetry

Sample question

Is the dashed line a line of symmetry of the rectangle?
Diagram. Four-sided shape. Not drawn to scale. Not drawn to scale
  1. A Yes
  2. B No
Show the answer and working

Answer: (B) No

How:
No. Folding along a diagonal does not make the halves match.

Why: The two halves are the same size, but one is turned round, so they do not land on each other when folded.

Statistics

Tables

13 practice questions

  • Read and complete tables

Sample question

The table shows fruit sold at a stall. What is the total for Mangoes?
Table: Fruit sold at a stall. Columns: Fruit, Saturday, Sunday. Apples: Saturday 48, Sunday 65. Pears: Saturday 37, Sunday 29. Mangoes: Saturday 56, Sunday 74. Bananas: Saturday 83, Sunday 91.Fruit sold at a stallFruitSaturdaySundayApples4865Pears3729Mangoes5674Bananas8391
